Overview
Silsila Solution’s biomedical team successfully implemented CAD4TB (Computer-Aided Detection for Tuberculosis) systems in five regional hospitals across Afghanistan. By harnessing AI-powered radiology tools, this project aimed to enhance tuberculosis diagnostic capacity in alignment with the country’s national TB control strategies.
Objectives
Install and Integrate: Deploy CAD4TB in selected hospitals.
Train Medical Staff: Provide operational training to effectively use CAD4TB for TB screening.
Build Technical Capacity: Equip biomedical and IT technicians with the skills for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Ensure System Functionality: Calibrate each system for optimal performance.
Key Activities
Installation & Integration: Each unit was set up within existing radiology infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration with digital X-ray systems and, where available, hospital information systems.
Operational Training: Approximately 10 medical professionals in each facility learned system startup/shutdown, image acquisition, quality control, AI-score interpretation, and data reporting.
Technical Training: Biomedical and IT personnel were trained on routine maintenance, basic troubleshooting, software updates, and support escalation procedures.
Outcomes
Enhanced Diagnostic Capacity: Five fully operational CAD4TB systems now deliver AI-assisted TB screening, boosting speed and accuracy in tuberculosis detection.
Trained Workforce: Over 50 clinical and technical staff received certification, ensuring in-house expertise for ongoing support.
Sustainable Impact: By integrating AI-based screening tools, each hospital strengthens its capacity to detect and manage tuberculosis, reducing diagnostic delays.
Recommendations & Follow-Up
